Black Diamond uses a four-way stretch woven fabric with Empel™ DWR, a PFC-free durable water-repellent finish applied at the fiber level to shed light moisture while maintaining breathability. This treatment offers more durable water resistance than many conventional DWR coatings and helps the pants stay comfortable during variable weather on long routes. Reinforcements in high-wear zones such as the knees and seat boost abrasion resistance where climbers and mountaineers often scuff or brush hard surfaces. Articulated knees and a gusseted inseam support a wide range of motion during climbing moves, high steps, and cross-body reaches, while the mid-rise waistband with adjustable webbing belt keeps the fit secure without restricting mobility. The pants also include practical features for backcountry use: two front zip pockets and a right-side zip pocket offer secure storage for essentials like keys, a phone, or a climbing tool; the slim, athletic cut keeps bulk down under harnesses and packs.
